The council has decided to rent out the second store next to the old library (coffeehouse?) on the road to Jaffa to the khawâja Ibrâhîm Bin Y’aqûb, the Ottoman Jew, for a whole year, from the beginning of Muharram (1)316 until the end of Dhî Al Hijja (1)316, for a rent amounting to sixty riyâl majîdi, to be paid in three installments.
Twenty liras in advance, after three months 20 liras, and three months 20 liras and after six months counting from the beginning of Muharram (1)316, 20 liras. And if the tenant should be late with any of the installments, the council will have the choice to evict him or let him stay. If he is evicted because of non-payment of the first or the second installment, he will not have the right to request (reimbursement) of what he paid in addition, and when (the store) is rented to someone else (?). For this reason, the missing amount which will result (from this situation) will be the responsability of the tenant who has committed to pay. And according to these conditions this rental was done. In order to certify this, this decision was taken on the 11th of Mayis (1)314 (23rd of May 1898).
