Scope and content

The decision taken upon the decree, dated 3 February 1898 and numbered 60, sent from the Ministry of Finance, regarding the room belonging to the Public Debts Administration outside Bab-al Halil
The kaza of Jerusalem has prospered and its population has increased; besides, the general square, which is located outside Bab-al Halil and where carriages stop over, is not sufficiently large. Thus, it has been considered appropriate to completely demolish the site constructed as a salt silo and reconstruct it on another site so as not to interrupt traffic. however, since the land between this two sites, owned by Hüseyinzâde Abdüsselam Effendi, and the Caûnî family, is situated below the firing port, it is prohibited to construct any building on it. Hence, in accordance with the Regulation for the Confiscation of Real Estates, it has been understood that it would be more appropriate to make a sale through our council’s fund, adding it to the two parts occupied by the said two places and to allocate there for the carriages to stop over. Thus, as regards receiving an opinion about this matter, a letter, dated 1 August 1896 and numbered 18, was presented by our council and relegated to the Sanjak Administrative Council. However, nothing has changed up to now and the said project has been put aside as there is yet no financial source for such a construction. The 5th of Mârt (1)314 (17th of March 1898).
