Upon the marginal note, taken by the Jerusalem Area Commandership below the letter given by Major Habib Effendi on 17 June 1901 for sheeps examination, and relegated to its locale on the same day, and the letter given by the veterinarian inspector on the same day.
Examining sheep to determine whether they are convenient for butchering will bring benefits in every respect. This depends on the veterinarian inspector, as part of his job, to go to the slaughterhouse everyday. Since the slaughterhouse is one-hour away from the town, it is necessary to give him at least 250 piasters in expense for carriage expenses, 100 piasters for the municipal sergeant to serve in his attendance, and 150 piasters for the cleaner, as it is indispensable to permanently employ someone for cleaning, i.e., 500 piasters in total. The municipal incomes are not sufficient enough for the arrangement of the said sum. It is expected that the said monthly sum would be obtained if, on average, 0.05 piasters is taken from 150 slaughtered sheep and 0.10 piasters from black cattle. On 7 January 1901, our council submitted a motion for the negotiation of this matter and its possible confirmation. It was thereupon understood that a permission had been asked by the Sanjak Administrative Council from the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Since no reply has been given yet, it is appropriate to reiterate the matter if it is deemed suitable to do so. The 5th of Huzayrân (1)317 (18th of June 1901).
