History

The monastery was founded in Nîmes during the lifetime of Saint Clare (1194-1253). In 1945 the monastery was destroyed by a bombing and rebuilt in 1953. In 1995, there were only 4 nuns left, when 28 Poor Clares from Algiers arrived, threatened by the Armed Islamic Group (AIG). Since then, they have given new life to these walls, inserting themselves into the life of the diocese, welcoming and working.
