Personnel and supplies for cleaning and sprinkling of roads, 21 May 1900 (Gregorian calendar) - 8 Mayîs 1316 (Ottoman fiscal calendar (Rumi)

Since summer is approaching, the sprinkling of the road leading from Jaffa Gate to the municipality’s hospital has begun. It is urgent to get rid of the dust and dirt which accumulate on the roads outside of the Old City in the important areas. Since we remembered this (?), we have decided to use one of the carts which were purchased last year for this purpose and employ workers. One of them works from the morning until the evening, sweeping the dirt which gathers and puts it in a pile (?); the second transports it with the cart and discards it in far away places. Accordingly, one horse was bought for 6 French liras with its equipment for an amount of 10 riyâl majîdî, for the use of both of the two workers, Muhammad Faz’al Al Khalîlî and Hassan Al Bûrnî. Each of them will receive a monthly salary of 150 piasters starting on the 8th of mârt (1)316 and the needed expenses for daily portions of rye and and straw as fodder for the mentioned cart horse and two buckets and two brooms a month. This was validated for the guard (jâwîsh) Mahmûd Agha in order for him to purchase what is needed on a monthly basis according to the above. Accordingly, this decision was taken on the 8th of Mayîs (1)316 (21st of May 1900).

Need of a register indicating the amount of deaths in the hospitals (every month), 22 May 1900 (Gregorian calendar) - 9 Mayîs 1316 (Ottoman fiscal calendar (Rumi)

It has been notified a few times to the relevant consulates, to the Greek Patriarchate and to the Chief Rabbinate that a register must be delivered at the end of every month to indicate the amount of deaths occurring in the hospitals within and outside the kaza. Although the matter was notified again by the mutasarrifate via a letter dated 20 January 1900, no register has been yet delivered apart from the hospitals belonging to the French and Russian consulates. In the letter given by the municipal doctor, it has been stated that the delay in drawing up the said register also causes a delay in drawing up the statistics requested by the Ministry of Internal Affairs about death cases. Hence, as regards the outright delivery of two registers from March of 1316 (1900) up to now and the regular delivery of a register at the end of every month, it is appropriate to notify the above-mentioned consulates, the Patriarchate and the Chief Rabbinate. The 9th of Mayîs (1)316 (22nd of May 1900).
