Upon the butchers’ petition, 14 January 1899 (Gregorian calendar) - 2 Kanûn Thânî 1314 (Ottoman fiscal calendar (Rumi)

Upon the butchers’ petition
The petition has been examined, leading to the conclusion that, since it is unlawful to eat those meat and sheep leg, regarded by the Jewish religion as tariz (?), that meat regarded by the Jewish religion as lawful to eat is sold at a higher price so as to distinguish between the meat that is lawful to eat or not. It has thus been understood that Muslims resort to Jewish butchers for slaughtering and that the said official has been appointed for making sure that the sublime verse Allahü Ekber (“God is Great”) is recited during the sheeps slaughter, regarded by Jewish as unlawful to slaughter and eat and sold to Muslims. Since no due action has been taken by the Municipal Council in respect thereof and it is thought that the Sanjak Administrative Council shall due so, it is appropriate to relegate the matter to the said council for negotiation. The 2nd of Kânûn Thânî (1)314 (14th of January 1899).

Road taxes, 24 January 1899 (Gregorian calendar) - 12 Kanûn Thânî 1314 (Ottoman fiscal calendar (Rumi)

The said matter has been negotiated by our council; it is the case that only one piasters is taken by the Bethlehem municipal council from the Jerusalem carriages running between Jerusalem and Bethlehem. It has been considered that it would be fair and proper to take in Jerusalem one piasters from carriages coming from Bethlehem to Jerusalem and going directly back to Bethlehem; three piasters in Bethlehem; and four piasters from those coming here and passing through Bab al-Halil and running in the roads inside and outside Jerusalem. Since the content of the hereby presented budget has also been examined and found to be in compliance with procedure and order, it is appropriate to relegate the matter to the Sanjak Administrative Council for negotiation. The 12th of Kânûn Thânî (1)314 (24th of January 1899).
