Upon the butchers’ petition
The petition has been examined, leading to the conclusion that, since it is unlawful to eat those meat and sheep leg, regarded by the Jewish religion as tariz (?), that meat regarded by the Jewish religion as lawful to eat is sold at a higher price so as to distinguish between the meat that is lawful to eat or not. It has thus been understood that Muslims resort to Jewish butchers for slaughtering and that the said official has been appointed for making sure that the sublime verse Allahü Ekber (“God is Great”) is recited during the sheeps slaughter, regarded by Jewish as unlawful to slaughter and eat and sold to Muslims. Since no due action has been taken by the Municipal Council in respect thereof and it is thought that the Sanjak Administrative Council shall due so, it is appropriate to relegate the matter to the said council for negotiation.
