General Correspondence Office

After an improvment in local administration in 1909 (1327) the Correspondence Office duties (Dahiliye Nezareti Mektubi Kalemi) have been made over to the General Correspondence Office (Muhaberat-ı Umumiye Dairesi). Therefore, correspondence between the Ministry and the other ministries or provinces as well as official letters, telegraphs, petitions and reports over various subjects are, from this date, filed into this series.

Diversified documents

This series includes documents covering almost all topics. Among them are files about natural disasters and assistance to the victims of these disasters; appointment, dismissal, leave and judgment of state officials; trials of fields and reforms; medal and awarding and other awards; Hicaz Railway; news about refuge; and facilities granted to foreign travellers.

Judicial affairs

The majority of the documents included in this series deal with public order and security. It also includes correspondence between the Ministry of Interior (Dahiliye Nezareti) and the field services and local administrations about public protection and personal law individual rights.

Administrative Documents from the Ministry

This series includes documents related to civil administration regulations; selection of municipal councils (councellors?) and administrators; licensing schools and churches building for non-Muslim people; allowing various archaeological excavations on the Ottoman lands and preventing the historical artefacts smuggling.

This series includes laws, orders and regulations from the Ministry of Interior and bills about them. It also includes the obiter dictum about legal issues and administrative regulations, and files from trials into which the ministry is involved.

The archivists from the General Correspondence Office, (Dahiliye Nezareti Muhaberat-ı Umumiye Dairesi) thematically organised the whole correspondence, using for instance political section, legal section, administrative section and diversified section.
