15-year lease for municipality’s hotel to Non-Ottoman, 8 October 1900 (Gregorian calendar) - 25 Aylûl 1316 (Ottoman fiscal calendar (Rumi)

According to the notification given by the district administrative council dated on the 31st of Agustos (1)316 a lease for the municipality’s hotel was given to the khawâja Fast and his son for a period of fifteen years starting in the beginning of Muharram (1)316, under the condition that they build nineteen rooms with all necessary content for an amount of 1300 French liras following the approved drawing and inspection report. If the mentioned amount is not spent entirely, whatever is left over is to be paid in cash to the council’s treasury and whatever is needed in addition to the 1300 French liras has to be paid by the leaseholders from their account. According to the terms of the contract, the construction and the expenses have to occur under the supervision of all of us, which means that the respectable Hâj Bakr Effendi Al Nashâ and the competent engineers will follow up (a few times) each month and immediately after the beginning and until the end of the construction works. This decision was taken accordingly on the 25th of Aylûl (1)316 (8th of October 1900).

With the re-implementation of the Constitution, the said intestine tax has been ceased to be taken in Jerusalem. However, in accordance with the mentioned telegram by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, it is appropriate to relegate the matter to the Sanjak Administrative Council for holding a negotiation about whether it is possible to accept the Halil Municipal Council’s demand. The 18th of Mâyîs (1)325 (31st of May 1909).

It has been understood from the explanations given by the headman of the quarter of Damascus Gate dated on the 3rd of Tishrîn Awwal (1)326 that ‘Abdul-Ghanî Qataniyya found an abandoned baby boy. In order to feed and bring up the infant, the council has decided to entrust him to ‘Abdul-Ghanî and pay the latter a sum of 50 piasters according to the official currency starting from the 1st of Tishrîn Awwal (1)326. Accordingly, this decision was taken on the 4th of Tishrîn Awwal (1)326 (17th of October 1910)..

About a church foundation excavation, 11 May 1899 (Gregorian calendar) - 29 Nîsân 1315 (Ottoman fiscal calendar (Rumi)

As stated in the report given by the municipal engineer, in the locale belonging to the nun named Mar Yosef, situated on the road going to Seyyidenâ-Akaşa, a foundation was started to be excavated. When the width of the excavated foundation was examined, it was surmised that this was being done to establish a church. In order to enjoin that no unlicensed building can be constructed under any circumstances, it is appropriate to report the matter to the Consulate of the French Republic with an official letter. The 29th of Nîsân (1)315 (11th of May 1899).
