Magnum Photos is an international agency created in 1947 by four photographers (Robert Capa, Henri Cartier-Bresson, George Rodger and David “Chim” Seymour). Its offices are in London (United Kingdom), New York (United States of America) and Paris (France).
Since its foundation, is has operated as a cooperative of photographers living and working all around the world.
Lea Majaro was born in the Old City of Jerusalem in 1925 and took the name Majaro-Mintz after her marriage with Yitzhak Mintz. She studied art in the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design and law in the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
Lea Majaro-Mintz is recognized for her artistical works in painting and sculpture.
After the Six-Day War (1967), she moved back in the Jewish Quarter if the Old City. In 1968, the "Kotel Order" ordered several drawings from her.
The British Mandate established the country's first survey department in 1920, known as the Survey Department of Palestine. Survey of Israel is the survey and mapping department of the Israeli Ministry of Housing and Construction. It is the successor of the Survey Department of Palestine.
Survey of Israel is the goverment agency for Mapping, Geodesy, Cadastre and Geoinformatics. The Survey is responsible for the national infrastructure in these areas as well as for a number of official functions.
The Survey of Israel pays particular attention to construction infrastructure, security and emergency services, environmental protection, tourism and research and development.
In the area of cadastre, the Survey leads the activities leading to land registration (Land Surveys Department). It is responsible for defining the boundaries of blocks and parcels in terms of coordinates and plans. The Survey deals annually with the continuation of settlement as well as with new subdivisions (re-parcellation) that express a change in the rights to the land or its use, or both.
Frederick John Salmon was a British surveyor, foreign service officer, and soldier.
He served in the Ceylon Survey from 1908 to 1930, with the exception of his service on the Western Front during World War I. During the war, he made a name for himself by promoting cooperation between surveying and artillery. He also decided to print and distribute updated maps and to use aerial photography to update tactical maps.
He became a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society in December 1918. Between 1930 and 1933, Salmon headed the land and survey departments in Cyprus. He was appointed director of the Survey of Palestine at the end of 1932. He began work at the Survey of Palestine on March 27, 1933, and then launched an initiative to begin modern topographic mapping of Palestine. He was appointed Commissioner of Lands and Surveys of Palestine and a member of the Advisory Council of the Government of Palestine in 1935.
His cartographic work is in the collection of the Royal Geographical Society.
Marilyn Silverstone graduated from Wellesley College in Massachusetts, then worked as an associate editor for Art News, Industrial Design and Interiors during the 1950s. She also served as an associate producer and historical researcher for an Academy Award-winning series of films on painters.
In 1955 she began to photograph professionally as a freelancer (with the Nancy Palmer Agency, New York), working in Asia, Africa, Europe, Central America and the Soviet Union. In 1959 she was sent on a three-month assignment to India, but ended up moving to New Delhi and was based there until 1973. During that time she produced the books Bala Child of India (1962) and Ghurkas and Ghosts (1964), and later The Black Hat Dances (1987), and Ocean of Life (1985). Kashmir in Winter, a film made from her photographs, won an award at the London Film Festival in 1971.
Silverstone became an associate member of Magnum in 1964, a full member in 1967, and a contributor in 1975. The agency had only five women members at the time. Silverstone's work for Magnum includes coverage of a wide variety of subjects.
Seared in many major magazines, including Newswilverstone, whose photographs have appeek, LIFE, Look, Vogue and National Geographic, became an ordained Buddhist nun in 1977. She lived in Kathmandu, Nepal, where she practiced Buddhism and researched the vanishing customs of the Rajasthani and Himalayan kingdoms. She died in October 1999 at the Shechen monastery, near Kathmandu, which she had helped to finance.
World Zionist Organization (WZO)
The Zionist Organization (ZO) was created at the instigation of Theodor Herzl in August 1897 during the First Zionist Congress held in Basel (Switzerland). Its foundation went along with the establishment of the Basel Program, stating its goals, which can be summed up as follows: to promote the settlement of Jewish people in Palestine; to unit the Jewish community on local and international levels; to strengthen the Jewish national sentiment; to intervene with government.
The Central Zionist Office, headquarters of the organization, was first set in Vienna (Austria-Hungary then). Afterwards, it moved to Cologne (Germany - 1905), to Berlin (Germany - 1911), to London (Great Britain - 1920) and, finally, to Jerusalem (1955).
In 1960, the Zionist Organization changed its name to World Zionist Organization (WZO).
Several bodies are coordinated by the WZO, as world zionist unions, territorial zionist federations and international zionist organizations.
Archbishopric of Ethiopian Orthodox Church in Jerusalem (AEOCJ)
Until the middle of 20th century, the Ethiopian Orthodox community in Jerusalem was led by an abbot, appointed by the Ethiopian monarchy. He was in charge of the Ethiopian monasteries in Jerusalem and Jericho. In 1951, a new organization of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church was established and new dioceses were defined in Ethiopia and aboard. The diocese of Jerusalem, including all Ethiopian Orthodox communities in Holy Lands, was created with its headquarter in the old city of Jerusalem. Thus, the Ethiopian Orthodox community was not anymore led by an abbot but a bishop. The Jerusalem bishopric was later upgraded to Archbishopric from 1959.

Aleksei Afanasevich Dmitrievsky (AAD)
Secretary of the Imperial Orthodox Palestine Society, Rector and Vice Rector of Astrakhan’s first university, Correspondent Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
He was the most important representative of Russian critical study of the liturgy. After training and teaching in the Kazan' Spiritual Academy, he was professor of liturgics and Christian archaeology at the Spiritual Academy of Kiev (1884–1907). His life's work was devoted to the sifting and editing of Greek and Slavic manuscripts of liturgical texts, leading to the three-volume “Description of the Liturgical Manuscripts Preserved in the Libraries of the Orthodox East”
