Scope and content

In a report given today by the municipal engineer, it is stated that two unlicensed campaniles are being constructed in the lands near Bab al-cedîd, by a French priest named Agustin dö la Somisnon (?) residing in Jerusalem, and that a license is given for a construction in the said locale of a temple and a building for the residence of priests. Since there is no Request for such a campanile and since it is necessary to obtain a license from the municipality for a campanile if it is regarded within the temple, it is necessary to send an official letter to addressees and the Consulate of the French Republic in order not to obtain a license in this manner but to cease the construction. The 10th of Tammûz (1)315 (22th of July 1899).
